Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is included; however, it is highly recommended that you bring your own PPE and saw to familiarize yourself with your own equipment.

Due to the limited timeframe of just three days, felling is not guaranteed and will be at the evaluator's discretion. If felling is a requirement for you, an additional cut day can be purchased for $250. Please note that a cut day requires several participants to sign up. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the cut day will be canceled, and you will not incur any charges.

Developing Thinking Sawyers is a comprehensive training program for chainsaw and crosscut saw operation, created by the National Saw Program Technical Advisory Group (SPTAG). This program is designed to help individuals become safer sawyers and is mandatory for volunteers working with recognized organizations that partner with the U.S. Forest Service. The curriculum emphasizes Sawyer safety, human factors, and risk management. Completing this course is a requirement for those seeking certification as a sawyer and is also recommended for individuals interested in roles such as forest firefighters or firefighter volunteers..

Course duration: May 16th - 18th, 8:00 AM - 5 PM, May 19th may be added if you want an additional cut day.

Description: Course consists of the Developing Thinking Sawyers program. Topics such as Chain Saw safety, maintenance, bucking, limbing, felling, etc.. will be covered.

Equipment: PPE is required for field work. PPE and gear will be provided for those needing it. We encourage people to bring their own saws and equipment, so that they may become more familiar with the saw they will be using.

Note: It is at the discretion of the instructors to decide who is ready and will have the opportunity to fell a tree.

Course Pricing:

$950 3-day class (16th - 18th) Bucking & Limbing, (felling for experienced sawyers)

$300 For bonus cut day

$250 Bonus cut day for returning sawyers.

Upon completion students will receive a Certificate of Completion of the modules and Saw Card from the National Saw Academy.
